Senior Project

Senior Project is a course in which high school seniors demonstrate a culmination of their academic knowledge through a topic of their choice. My project is about making a social change by utilizing your own passion. Specifically for my project, I am creating care packages filled with art supplies, called My Change Box, and sending them to underprivileged children of migrant workers in rural India.

My Inspiration

My inspiration for this project stems from my work as a youth ambassador of the American India Foundation (AIF). Last year, before my Nritya Nipuna (Indian Classical solo dance debut), I learned about AIF, a non-profit that is committed to transform the lives of India's neediest people, and their Learning and Migration Program (LAMP). Through my dance event, I ended up raising $10,393 for LAMP, which helped provide basic education for over 200 children. However, my inspiration for this project did not stop at fundraising, as after I had the opportunity to meet two students who received an education through AIF’s LAMP program, I realized that there is so much more we can do besides providing basic education. Seeing the students’ motivation and drive to succeed, I recognized that we can significantly enhance their educational experience by providing the appropriate tools to unleash their creativity. From a young age, I was fortunate enough to express creativity through visual arts. Thus, I combined my passion for art with my desire to make a social change, through My Change Box.
